East Kowloon Cultural Centre

Works include construction of a three-storey building, three studios with the capacity of between 120 and 250 seats, a 1,200-capacity auditorium, 550-seat theatre and under stage area, semi-basement areas for plant rooms, and other ancillary facilities. The project will also house a large rehearsal room, two connectable rehearsal rooms, a restaurant, box office, cloak room and enquiry counter.

What do i do

I was a assistant engineer for the building services systems under this project. I involved in the project design and project management for the various building services systems.

From understanding the clients’ requirements, the regulations and the standards, tackling with a series of paperwork, site supervision and coordination as well as delivering the project; I did everything that falls in between these lines and it can be summarized as two major fields: project design and project management.

Shop Drawings & As-built Drawings

I prepared the shop drawings and submitted it to the consultants for getting approval before starting the site work.

After the site work completed and inspected, I changed the title block of the latest shop drawing so as to produce the as-built drawings for further handover.

I prepared the O&M Manual and submitted it to the consultants and the client as the final step to deliver the project.

Project Management

Site Supervision and Coordination

I performed a daily walk on site to monitor the site progress and supervise the workmanship and the safety performance.

In addition, a series of coordination was executed during the site walk, it ensured that the installations were conducted up to the site situation and the latest drawings so as to reduce the non conformance items.

Site Inspection

I arranged and participated in the site inspections for the concealed conduit installation and site opening installation for building services systems with the sub-contractors, consultants and the clients. Then I arranged to rectify the non conformance items, whatever the drawing issues or the site work, to fulfill the demands from the consultants and the clients so as to deliver further the project and made everyone satisfied with our delivery.

Document Control

As you may know, we have a lot of paperwork during the site construction. It involves many fields such as engineering and construction, safety, environment, quality survey, quality assurance, etc. I handled all of these and you may find the several in the image carousel shown at right.

Material Management

I was responsible for ordering the materials , renting the site equipment and arranging the calibration service. I also coordinated the logistic route and the location of the warehouse with the sub-contractors in order to make a reliable and convenient pathway for the material delivery and store.
